My name is Charlie, and I am the founder of Howland Dock Brewery Co., and also the brain behind 'Howland Stout' - our first beer in production currently - but whilst you all wait for it's first release, I'll start by telling you where the idea came from, how I ended up landing on 'Howland Stout', and what the mission is.

During a period of time where I was bed-bound on my sofa, due to an unforeseen injury being sustained on my leg (I broke my leg after having a fight with a car - unfortunate, I know; you should have seen the car), an idea was born. I wanted to create my own beer, from scratch, using nothing but what I had available to me, and maybe a few extra purchases - well, most of it was purchased, to be honest; just sugar and Oats from the cupboard wasn't going to cut it.

The idea was simply a string of boredom, at first, and was more of a 'I wonder if I could...' over a 'Hey, let's start an actual Brewery'. So, I set out to buy the basic ingredients needed, a fermenter, a big enough cooking pot, a few different ingredients - a Malt extract, some yeast, and then I did it - I cooked a batch of what was known to myself as 'Proof Juice'. The excitement when I finally cracked open that recycled plastic bottle, and took a sip, to my surprise it actually tasting like some form of alcohol (I won't go as far as saying it actually tasted like a Pub-worthy pint of freshly poured G), and it had some life to it.

It was at that very point I stopped myself and thought - "You know what... maybe I can do something with this." - the idea, obviously... not the kitchen-made alcoholic liquid I had just whipped up with a few ingredients I purchased on Amazon.

So, there it was - "Howland Dock Brewery Co." was born, the name of what was going to become something bigger than just an idea in my head... it was the start of what was set out to become the 'Please just try it, please... just one sip' to my girlfriend, the 'I'm about to cook a batch, I'll put the kitchen extract fan on', and the 'Oh my G--, there's actually a head on it'.

What did you think? This was an established, cooperate-run Brewery? Hell no. It's me, myself and my kitchen, and a few supplies to keep the dream alive. And as to why it's called Howland Dock Brewery? Well, I live beside Greenland Dock - formally known as Howland Great Wet Docks. Simple, right?

Howland Stout is set to become a reminder that you don't need to follow cool trends online, or be a certain calibre of 'Beer connoisseur' to drink it - you just need to crack the lid, tilt the bottle, and pour it into your favourite glass. That's it (and drink it, of course...). That is also my mission - to produce a stout that everyone can enjoy, without worrying about splitting letters, or setting tables.
